*Age Of Consent & Legal Sexual Activity for the State of
14th January 2004
Email to Honourable
Rod Welford MP, Attorney-General
and Minister for Justice pointing out that his 12th
January 2004 email is in error in
suggesting that I am requesting a change in age of consent law. I reiterate
that what I seek is removal of the Sodomy Law – early in the next

Dear Mr Welford,
I
appreciate your
I am
concerned however that in your brief reply you suggest that I have sought a
change in law affecting age of consent. This is not the case, because the age
of consent is already technically equal, in law, at 16.
What I
have specifically sought, since the middle of the year 2000, is the
removal of the Sodomy Law (Sections 208 & 209 of the Criminal Code).
The
confusion among the general public which is caused by the Sodomy Law is exactly
that which is reflected in your reply. Too many people erroneously equate
the Sodomy Law with being a legal restriction on the age of consent, at
18, for all sex between men.
I
appreciate that you personally are well aware of how the law should really be
interpreted. However the only way that we will have any chance of a clear
understanding among the broader community of how age of consent for
sex truly applies, will be if the Sodomy Law is removed completely.
I pray that
this action will occur as a matter of priority in the Queensland Parliament
immediately following the February election.
I look
forward to hearing from you.
yours
sincerely,
John Frame
