I went to last night's opening of "The Saucy Cantina" at The Brisbane Powerhouse and just want to let others know what to expect. As a cheap as chips show ($18/$12), it deserves to get a full house each night. It's the ultimate show for anyone who remembers mum telling them "Don't play with your food!"

Melbourne artist Moira Finucane presents, in the cosy ambience of a recreated cantina, a series of stunning and talented women who express themselves passionately through their foodstuff props, accompanied by powerful and emotive music (ranging from AC/DC to lesbian choral composer Abbess Hildegarde Von Bingen).

The Visy Theatre is kitted out with a full bar, but once the show starts, not many people will be wandering off for a drink. It's like David Lynch's ideal of vaudeville (for those who've seen "Eraserhead"). So not everything that happens is apparent as fun - but people laughed heaps - squirmed at times - and ducked for cover when necessary.

There's even a raffle of a basket of "Saucy Cantina" products, so you can go home and recreate Moira's characters in your own lounge room. (You'll need your own sidekick, skim milk and several towels).

It's great fun and highly recommended.

"The Saucy Cantina" is a Brisbane Pride Festival related program. Running to 13th July.
