Review:
Hedwig & The Angry Inch
Review by John Frame
The amazing modern rock-opera "
Hedwig & the Angry Inch", is definitely one of the most intensely entertaining films I’ve seen in years.Writer/actor /director John Cameron Mitchell presents a story that will impress any viewer. Hedwig deserves to be a star – especially if the critical requirement is that you have to suffer for your art. The "Angry Inch" is not only Hedwig’s backing band, but also a description of what’s left of her genitalia after a back-alley sex change op.
There’s lots of humour, stunning visuals, powerful songs and great animation. Combine all this with a very strong performance by John Cameron Mitchell and you know you’ll want to see it again – and next time you’ll be singing along.
"Hedwig" opened at Brisbane’s Palace Centro on 1st November 2001 and releases on DVD in Australia in mid May 2002
