Open Doors supports young people who are exploring,
questioning or identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender between
12 -18 and their families. Open Doors is a holistic, innovative and dynamic
service which works with young people in creative, accessible and culturally
appropriate ways to enhance participation and connection to lesbian, gay,

Coming Out Day 7th October (
2000 is the
inaugural year for a Coming Out Day in the UK, in which a cooperative effort by
42 organisations provide a 24 hour long telephone counselling and referral
service, through one contact number, across England, Ireland, Wales and
Scotland. This is not an exercise in "outing" anyone, or creating a
climate where people are forced to reveal their sexuality. It is very much the
antithesis of this and instead we are trying to inform people that there is a
network of organisations across the country who will provide them with a
confidential and safe environment to discuss their feelings. This service is
being provided by trained and experienced volunteers.

The NCOP resources will hopefully provide direction on this incredible journey.
Coming out is still the single most important thing you can do to turn

but not narrow."
